Down in Bernie’s old office, what I now call the library, are what is left of the Bible’s that are featured in this space.  They truly fit the mold of what this series set out to be, looking at Bibles that do more sitting than being read.

Among those downstairs was an early purchase as I got started on the ministry track, the King James Study Bible.  Those of you who know me understand that translation plays a big part in the reason this isn’t on my desk in the office.  However, the reason I purchased it was for the notes, like you would consider for any Study Bible.  Looking at the notes on the Gospel lesson for the coming week, I see again why I was drawn to this Bible.  The notes are enlightening to the text and go very deep as I look over the Epistle lesson from Ephesians.  In a sense you could use it as a mini commentary, even if you weren’t in love with the translation (and some people very much are).

This particular version is the second edition and has a supple yet sturdy faux leather.  Silver gilded pages add a nice touch.  It’s also a red-letter edition, something you probably know by now that I like.  I’ve gotten a bit picky, so the single bookmark ribbon is nice, but I’d much rather have two.  This Bible features quite a bit of information in the back, including maps, a concordance, Indices on Paul, Jesus, and prophesy as well as a money, weight, and measurement table.  There’s a lot here for someone who wants to study the Bible.

I might have to find this a place on the bookshelf upstairs in my office.

As always, this Bible and all the other ones that have been featured are available anytime here at the church for you to look at or borrow.
