Earlier this week I had the chance to take part in something that is not in my regular routine.  I have been invited for the past five months or so to attend a prayer meeting with other pastors in the area.  For whatever reason, something has come up on those days, and I have not been able to attend…until this week.

There is something powerful about being in a place where numerous people are praying privately and corporately at the same time.  When moved by the Spirit, different people would share Scripture and then a prayer that came out of that Word.  It was different, but certainly not in a bad way.  It was magnificent to know that each month, faith leaders in the area gather to pray over the region and the world.  I know that each brings the burdens of their own flock with them, yet they pour themselves out for others.

There is such power in intercessory prayer. It is difficult for me to think of such prayer without thinking of Paul and the way that he shared with each church how much he prayed for them, how much he thanked God for them.  I do hope that we all leave church each Sunday and add the people we have talked about into our daily prayers.  God hears us.

If imitation is the greatest form of flattery, let me flatter the folks at Montezuma Church of the Brethren.   Near the bottom of their weekly email is always the same phrase, “Pray for one another.”  It is my hope that we also pray for one another.
